How do you IMAGINE stuff? Pictures & images? Colours, feelings, words???
I have found it very helpful to imagine getting better – what ever you have going on, if your MIND is onboard in your wellness journey, it makes a huge difference… Both in terms of a sense of overwhelm - its bloody hard being poorly - and in terms of actually getting better…
When I was super POORLY with Lyme disease, I spent hours and hours over days and weeks and months visualising myself getting better… for me that looked like my body being a nightclub, my white blood cells were the bouncers and the Lyme was a group of rowdy piss-heads… They weren’t sinister, just a pain in the arse. The bouncers were searching through the nightclub and then very politely asking the Lyme piss-heads to leave… I genuinely think this made a massive difference to the speed and effectiveness of my RECOVERY.
I have used a similar technique to help someone with chronic shoulder pain and head forward holding pattern… Imagining the shoulders super, super heavy, maybe turn them to stone. So, they fall away from the ears. It is so HELPFUL. It encourages the new posture to become engrained much faster.
What is amazing is, it’s your imagination – you can do anything you want. Whatever it is that works for you. You can picture it.
Often, I find actually looking at an anatomical picture of what the area looks like, is helpful. Then the picture of whatever it is, can be super clear… You can go about imagining it well. HEALTHY… Maybe your liver function is down… Picturing the liver, in its finest detail & then letting it be as healthy as it can be, colour, movement etc… The more detail the better, add anything you can think of to make the imagine more real…
In my experience, much of what your head can imagine, your body can do. These bodies of ours are INCREDIBLE, never underestimate how amazing they are and how much they want you to be well… It is their job, what they are designed to do over millions of years of evolution. We know a good headspace makes a huge difference in our ability to get well, even traditional medicine acknowledges this. Using our imagination seems to me, to be the next step in that process… And also, what have you got to lose?
